This cross is located in St. Petroc’s churchyard on the River Camel estuary on the north coast of Cornwall. The churchyard cross is a round or `wheel’ head set on a modern shaft and base. The overall height of the monument is 1.87m. The head is carved from a grey elvan stone. The monument was erected in the medieval period, and the cross is thought to date from the 13th century. The monument is Grade II* listed and scheduled as an ancient monument. The cross is a significant example of medieval religious art, and it is one of the few surviving examples of a wheel head cross in Cornwall. The cross has been damaged by weathering and erosion, but it remains an impressive and fascinating relic of the medieval period.
